SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 953
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased |
|
|
to recognize the Medina Valley High School students who are |
|
|
participating in the University Interscholastic League State |
|
|
Academic Tournament on May 3 through May 5 on the campus of |
|
|
The University of Texas at Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The University Interscholastic League offers |
|
|
the most comprehensive academic competitive program in the |
|
|
nation; its academic contests are designed to motivate students |
|
|
to acquire higher levels of knowledge, challenge them to confront |
|
|
issues of importance, and provide them with the opportunity to |
|
|
demonstrate mastery of specific skills; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The State Academic Tournament contestants from |
|
|
Medina Valley High School are Hector Torres, who is competing |
|
|
in current events; Josh Fritz, who is competing in computer |
|
|
applications; and Tim Leis, Karah Flesch, Paiten Tinar, and |
|
|
Sarah Aelvoet, who are all competing in accounting; Sarah will |
|
|
also compete in number sense and math; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Their academic coaches are Sharon Rodriguez for |
|
|
current events, Delores Castleberry for computer applications |
|
|
and accounting, and Greg Ward for number sense and math; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Medina Valley students qualified for the state |
|
|
tournament by participating in the Class 3A Region IV academic |
|
|
tournament in Kingsville; they are exceptional students who |
|
|
bring great honor to their school; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Medina Valley High |
|
|
School students on their accomplishments in the regional academic |
|
|
tournament and extend to them best wishes for success in the |
|
|
University Interscholastic League State Academic Tournament; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared |
|
|
for these students as an expression of high regard from the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
