SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 959
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. Polly Sparks Turner, who is retiring after many
years of dedicated service with Texas Southern University; and
       WHEREAS, Associate professor and director of the health
care administration graduate program, Dr. Turner is an inspiring
and gifted teacher who captures the imagination and attention of
her students; and
       WHEREAS, As an administrator, Dr. Turner has served Texas
Southern University creatively and with dedication; among her
many accomplishments, she has been instrumental in bringing
grants from various sources to the college, designed the
college's first summer academy program for pharmacy students,
and authored the proposal for the first graduate program in the
College of Pharmacy's 56-year history; and
       WHEREAS, Dr. Turner has served with distinction on
numerous departmental, college, and university committees and
has actively participated in professional organizations and
conferences; she has contributed immeasurably to the development
of the health care administration program at Texas Southern
University; and
       WHEREAS, An exemplary educator, Dr. Turner is admired and
respected by her students and colleagues, and her presence at
Texas Southern University will be greatly missed; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Polly Sparks Turner on her
exceptional service to Texas Southern University and our state
and extend to her best wishes for the retirement years ahead;
and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
