SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 971
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Oak Hill Cemetery Association of Bastrop County on
the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
       WHEREAS, Formed in 1907 for the purpose of caring for and
perpetuating the town cemetery, the Oak Hill Cemetery Association
has through the years added to the foundation laid by the Texas
Revolution veterans who were among the founders of the Oak Hill
community in the 1840s; and
       WHEREAS, The Oak Hill Cemetery Association has for many
years sponsored an annual picnic; by the late 1930s, attendance
was recorded in the thousands, with as much as 1,500 pounds of
beef and pork being barbecued, politicians giving speeches, and
baseball games being played; and
       WHEREAS, The 100th anniversary annual picnic will be
held May 26, 2007; the Oak Hill Cemetery Association is truly
deserving of recognition for its many contributions to the
Oak Hill community through the years; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Oak Hill Cemetery
Association on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and extend
best wishes for a memorable annual picnic; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the association as a memento of this special occasion.
