SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 980
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join the Volunteer Center of North Texas in recognizing
Collin County volunteers for their extraordinary contributions
to their community; and
       WHEREAS, Ann Boswell, a long-standing volunteer from
Plano, received the Andre Davidson Spirit of Volunteerism Award
for her hard work and her achievements exemplifying the passion,
enthusiasm, and spirit of volunteerism; and
       WHEREAS, William Fell was honored in the civic and
community leadership award for educating and enforcing
handicapped parking laws, and Cara Mendelsohn, president of the
Huffman Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association, received
the education award; the humanitarian award was given to
Carol Wilson with Frisco Family Service for her longtime
volunteerism; and Chelsea Anderson of Murphy received the youth
volunteer award for her work with children through Child
Protective Services; and
       WHEREAS, Volunteer awards were also presented to groups;
the facilitators of the Journey of Hope Grief Support Center
received the civic and community leadership award for their grief
counseling for children, Parents Helping Teachers, a group of
Mendenhall Elementary School parents, received the education
award for assisting teachers with students who have limited
English skills, and the Collin County Meals on Wheels volunteers
received the humanitarian award for their work with homebound
senior citizens; and
       WHEREAS, Cub Scout Pack 200 in Plano received the youth
group volunteer award for completing several beautification
projects; Alcatel-Lucent of Plano received the large business
volunteer award for its work with the Susan G. Komen Foundation;
and La Lique Salon received the small business volunteer award
for its contributions to several charitable events; and
       WHEREAS, These volunteers have given generously of their
time, energy, and resources to make a difference in the lives of
others; they are indeed appreciated for their kindness and
generosity; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the recipients of the
Volunteer Center of North Texas' Collin County volunteerism awards
and commend them for their selfless service; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of appreciation from the Texas Senate.
