SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 988
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Homer Phillips on the occasion of his retirement from
  the Mesquite Fire Department on May 31, 2007, after more than 24
  years of loyal service; and
 
         WHEREAS, Homer Phillips, a firefighter and paramedic, began
  his career with the Mesquite Fire Department on December 6, 1982;
  he received his paramedic certification in October of 1985; and
 
         WHEREAS, Homer has received numerous commendations for his
  outstanding service and his high degree of commitment and pride in
  fulfilling his responsibilities with the Mesquite Fire Department;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, In addition to his firefighting and paramedic
  responsibilities, he has completed jobs during off-duty hours,
  building storage areas and ramps and doing wiring and mounting at
  Fire Station 7; and
 
         WHEREAS, Also during his off-duty hours, he assisted in many
  medical emergencies, using his paramedic skills and his personal
  first-aid kit; on one occasion, he led 200 people to safety in a
  basement when a tornado touched down in Palestine; and
 
         WHEREAS, Homer Phillips is admired and respected by his
  colleagues, and his presence in the Mesquite Fire Department will
  be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby commend Homer Phillips for his many years
  of service to the Mesquite Fire Department and extend to him best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
