SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1012
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Reverend C.J.R. Phillips, Jr., for his 30 years of |
|
|
loyal service as pastor of Saint Phillips Missionary Baptist |
|
|
Church in Dallas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under Reverend Phillips' guidance, the church |
|
|
membership has grown tremendously; the facility has undergone |
|
|
a total renovation and now includes a fully accredited child-care |
|
|
center; he has also instituted numerous ministries within the |
|
|
church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A gospel preacher who attended Bishop College, |
|
|
Reverend Phillips is known throughout the United States and abroad |
|
|
for his powerful sermons and melodic singing ability, and he |
|
|
receives numerous invitations to conduct revivals across our |
|
|
nation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under Reverend Phillips' outstanding leadership, |
|
|
Saint Phillips Missionary Baptist Church has provided |
|
|
enlightenment, hope, and support to the Dallas community; his |
|
|
vision has always been that the ministries of the church should |
|
|
serve outside the walls of the church to meet the needs of the |
|
|
less fortunate throughout the community and the city; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, |
|
|
Reverend Phillips has performed countless ceremonies and has |
|
|
prayed with and counseled his church members in times of hardship |
|
|
and bereavement and rejoiced with them in times of joy and |
|
|
celebration; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian, |
|
|
Reverend Phillips has had a positive influence on the lives |
|
|
of countless people; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby join the members of Saint Phillips |
|
|
Missionary Baptist Church in commending |
|
|
Reverend C.J.R. Phillips, Jr., on his loyal service |
|
|
to his church and his community; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared |
|
|
for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
