SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1014

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Mount Rose Church of Dallas on the momentous occasion of its 115th anniversary on November 1, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Mount Rose Church began as Mount Rose Baptist Missionary Church, a historically black church of the Missionary Baptist denomination; one of its early leaders was Ethel Parnell, known for her many works in the South Dallas community; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, Mount Rose Church has ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs of innumerable people; and

WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its previous pastors and to the outstanding leadership of its current pastor, Bishop Jeff D. Thomas, the church has continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life of the community; and

WHEREAS, Mount Rose Church has been a source of strength during times of hardship and bereavement and a source of joy during times of bounty and celebration; and

WHEREAS, The celebration of its 115th anniversary is an expression of the church's enduring commitment to the South Dallas community; the church provides enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members of Mount Rose Church on the joyous occasion of its 115th anniversary; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as a memento of this auspicious occasion.
