SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1019
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Glen Dock Cheek
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
  of Harris County in mourning the loss of Glen Dock Cheek, who died
  April 26, 2007, at the age of 65; and
 
         WHEREAS, Born March 15, 1942, in Rosenberg to Erma and
  Morgan Cheek, Glen Cheek graduated from Orchard High School,
  where he excelled in sports; he received a football scholarship
  to Wichita State University, where he was the starting running
  back on a conference championship team; and
 
         WHEREAS, After his college career in football was ended by
  injuries, Mr. Cheek returned to Houston and joined the Houston
  Police Department, beginning a career in law enforcement that
  would span more than 42 years; he graduated from Police Cadet
  Class number 27 in 1963 and served as a patrolman and then as a
  criminal investigator, before being promoted to sergeant in 1969
  and being assigned to the Tactical Squad; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cheek took his experience, maturity, and
  professionalism to several divisions in the Houston Police
  Department; for several years, he worked with the Tactical Squad
  and the Southwest Patrol Bureau; he then worked in the Juvenile
  Division until his retirement in 1984; a year later, he became
  chief deputy of the constable's office of Precinct 5, and in
  1988, he was elected to the position of constable of Precinct 5, a
  position he held the rest of his life; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cheek was a lifetime member of the Houston
  Police Officers Association and the Constable and Justice of the
  Peace Association; he remained devoted to sports and sponsored
  Southwest Fun Football, the Alief Soccer Club, the Glenshire Swim
  Team, Braeburn Valley Little League, and other youth activities;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, Known as the "no-nonsense lawman," Glen Cheek was
  also known for his passion for nature and the outdoors, and he
  loved fishing and writing poetry; he will be remembered for his
  unquestionable integrity and his dedication to his work and to
  his family and friends; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Glen Dock Cheek: his daughter, Devon; and his
  son, Justin; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Glen Dock Cheek.
