SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1020

Mary Jane Kitchens |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Mary Jane Kitchens, who died April 22, 2007; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mary Jane Kitchens was the descendant of |
|
Methodist circuit rider minister Thomas Jefferson Burt and of |
|
Mary Telitha Shasteen Burt, her grandmother, the first woman |
|
judge in Fort Sumner, New Mexico; her father, Walter Hall, was an |
|
early Austin radio program fiddler who played weekly requests for |
|
Governor Ma Ferguson; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kitchens shared 54 years of marriage with her |
|
husband, the late Clyde William Kitchens, Sr.; she was a retired |
|
accountant and office manager for Sage, Incorporated; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in community affairs, Mrs. Kitchens was |
|
involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post |
|
10458 and the World War II 36th Division Recon Reunion; she was |
|
also committed to her work as a Sunday school teacher; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kitchens was devoted to her family and was a |
|
beloved member of her community, and she will continue to live in |
|
the hearts and minds of those she left behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
bereaved family of Mary Jane Kitchens: her son, George W. Kitchens; |
|
her daughters and son-in-law, Lina L. Wintz and Ina M. Faulk and |
|
Jim Faulk; and her 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and |
|
two great-great-grandchildren; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Mary Jane Kitchens. |
