SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1022

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to Jan Soifer, who is celebrating her 50th birthday on May 16, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Jan Soifer has had an active statewide civil litigation practice based in Austin for more than 24 years; she is a 1979 graduate of Yale University, and she earned a juris doctor degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 1982; and

WHEREAS, She has represented numerous clients before the state and federal trial and appellate courts of Texas, and she has counseled clients on a variety of legal issues; and

WHEREAS, The recipient of a number of professional honors, she was selected Outstanding Young Lawyer in 1991 by the Texas Young Lawyers Association; she received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Travis County Women Lawyers' Association, and she was named a 2006 Texas Super Lawyer by Law & Politics and the publishers of Texas Monthly; and

WHEREAS, She is an active leader and a highly esteemed member of her community and serves on the board of directors of several associations; she received the 2000 Austin Jewish Community Leadership Award for her dedication, support, and service to the Jewish Community Association of Austin; she has served as director of the State Bar of Texas and as president of the Austin Bar Association; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby recognize Jan Soifer as a treasured citizen of our state and extend to her best wishes for a joyous 50th birthday celebration; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as a memento of this special day in her life.
