SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1033
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Audreyjane Castro
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of community
  leader Audreyjane "Ajay" Castro, who died April 19, 2007,
  at the age of 76; and
         WHEREAS, She was born in Boston on August 23, 1930,
  to Hubert T. Byrne and Anna Buchanan Byrne and grew up in
  Weston, Massachusetts; she graduated from Vassar College and
  worked in New York City for 10 years before moving to San Antonio
  with her husband and infant daughter in 1963; and
         WHEREAS, Ajay Castro was a writer and public relations
  professional who donated her services to many San Antonio
  nonprofit organizations; she was especially committed to the
  support and promotion of educational institutions, such as
  Saint Mary's University, the Alamo Community College District
  Foundation, and San Antonio Youth Literacy; and
         WHEREAS, She was active in several professional
  associations and served on the board of directors of the
  Pan American Round Table of Texas, the Texas Cancer Council,
  and The University of Texas at San Antonio Center for the Study
  of Women and Gender; and
         WHEREAS, She was deeply committed to her community
  and served on the board of directors for the Monte Vista
  Historical Association; in 2005 she became the first inductee
  into The Association for Women in Communications Hall of Fame
  in San Antonio; and
         WHEREAS, Ajay Castro will long be remembered in the
  San Antonio community for her professional expertise, selfless
  public service, and her dedication to her family, who will
  treasure forever the memories of a devoted wife, beloved mother,
  and cherished grandmother; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Audreyjane Castro: her husband of 44 years,
  Charles I. Castro, Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law,
  Ann Elizabeth and Robert Gibson; her son and daughter-in-law,
  Charles I. Castro III and Catalina Castro; her five grandchildren,
  Wesley Charles, Ian Philip, Audrey Evelyn, Charles Cameron IV,
  and Eduardo Avelino; and her brother, Hubert Byrne; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Audreyjane Castro.
