Audreyjane Castro |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of community |
|
leader Audreyjane "Ajay" Castro, who died April 19, 2007, |
|
at the age of 76; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was born in Boston on August 23, 1930, |
|
to Hubert T. Byrne and Anna Buchanan Byrne and grew up in |
|
Weston, Massachusetts; she graduated from Vassar College and |
|
worked in New York City for 10 years before moving to San Antonio |
|
with her husband and infant daughter in 1963; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ajay Castro was a writer and public relations |
|
professional who donated her services to many San Antonio |
|
nonprofit organizations; she was especially committed to the |
|
support and promotion of educational institutions, such as |
|
Saint Mary's University, the Alamo Community College District |
|
Foundation, and San Antonio Youth Literacy; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was active in several professional |
|
associations and served on the board of directors of the |
|
Pan American Round Table of Texas, the Texas Cancer Council, |
|
and The University of Texas at San Antonio Center for the Study |
|
of Women and Gender; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was deeply committed to her community |
|
and served on the board of directors for the Monte Vista |
|
Historical Association; in 2005 she became the first inductee |
|
into The Association for Women in Communications Hall of Fame |
|
in San Antonio; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ajay Castro will long be remembered in the |
|
San Antonio community for her professional expertise, selfless |
|
public service, and her dedication to her family, who will |
|
treasure forever the memories of a devoted wife, beloved mother, |
|
and cherished grandmother; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
bereaved family of Audreyjane Castro: her husband of 44 years, |
|
Charles I. Castro, Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law, |
|
Ann Elizabeth and Robert Gibson; her son and daughter-in-law, |
|
Charles I. Castro III and Catalina Castro; her five grandchildren, |
|
Wesley Charles, Ian Philip, Audrey Evelyn, Charles Cameron IV, |
|
and Eduardo Avelino; and her brother, Hubert Byrne; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Audreyjane Castro. |
