SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1034
         WHEREAS, Distinguished physician Dr. Benjamin Interiano is
  reaching an important milestone in his life with his 65th
  birthday on May 15, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Santa Ana, El Salvador, in 1942,
  Dr. Interiano graduated from the University of El Salvador and
  completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of
  Pennsylvania Medical Center; he is a diplomate of the American
  Board of Internal Medicine and diplomate as well in the specialty
  of pulmonary disease; and
         WHEREAS, After being in private practice in El Salvador for
  17 years, Dr. Interiano moved to Houston in 1989 and took a
  position as assistant professor of medicine at Baylor College of
  Medicine; as an associate professor at Baylor he was the founding
  medical director of the Asthma Institute of Houston; he has also
  served as the associate director of the Institute of Preventive
  Medicine and director of diagnostic testing at Methodist
  Hospital; and
         WHEREAS, At present he is in private practice at Memorial
  Hermann Southwest Hospital and a clinical associate professor at
  Baylor College of Medicine; and
         WHEREAS, Making invaluable contributions to his
  profession, Dr. Interiano was Governor for El Salvador of the
  American College of Chest Physicians, and he has been president
  of the Hispanic American Medical Association of Houston and the
  Salvadoran American Medical Society, as well as chairman of the
  Council of International Medical Societies of the Harris County
  Medical Society; he has been a member of the Board of Directors
  and the Advisory Board of the American Lung Association of Texas,
  and currently he is a member of the Ethics Committee of the
  Harris County Medical Society; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Interiano's professional achievements have
  been recognized many times; in 1970 he was the Mead Johnson
  Scholar of the American College of Physicians and the first
  pulmonary and critical care fellow at the University of Rochester
  Medical Center; he was awarded a Presidential Citation from the
  government of El Salvador in 1989, and in 1992 he received the
  Humanitarian Award from the American Lung Association; in 2006 he
  was named one of America's top physicians by the Consumer's
  Research Council of America; and
         WHEREAS, He has also received the Telemundo Hispanic
  Excellence Award for Outstanding Service to the Hispanic
  Community in 1992 and an award in 2004 for his outstanding
  community work from the Hispanic American Medical Association of
  Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Bolstered by the love and devotion of his wife,
  Rita, his sons, Roberto, Mauricio, Gerardo, and Rodrigo, and his
  grandchildren, Gabriela, Roberto, Mauricio, Cristina, Claudia,
  Marcos, Lucia, and Andrea, Dr. Interiano has given generously of
  his great gifts to his patients, his profession, and his
  community, and he is most deserving of special recognition; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Benjamin Interiano on
  his 65th birthday and extend to him best wishes for continued
  success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Interiano as an expression of high regard from
  the Texas Senate.
