SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1055

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Metz Elementary School on the grand occasion of its 90th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Metz Elementary School is one of the rare remaining elementary schools in America that has educated multiple successive generations of the families in its neighborhood; teachers at the school often recognize former students who are now bringing their own children to school; and

WHEREAS, Metz Elementary School has been an important part of the Mexican American community since its inception; in years past, an elementary school education was all that was available to many residents of the neighborhood, and Metz Elementary School became a significant cultural touchstone for many generations of citizens in that vibrant community; and

WHEREAS, Metz Elementary School has been recognized by the History Channel with a grant from the Save Our History program; the grant will underwrite student projects like oral history presentations, an original musical theater piece, and a mural that will visually tell the story of the school; and

WHEREAS, Metz Elementary School has served its community with distinction for 90 years, and it is truly deserving of recognition for the important role it has played in the lives of generations of students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and staff at Metz Elementary School for their hard work and many achievements and extend to them best wishes for a memorable 90th anniversary celebration; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. Watson
