SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1072
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of New Braunfels in mourning the loss of community
leader James Howard Dunks, who died March 20, 2007, at the age
of 45; and
       WHEREAS, James Dunks was born in San Antonio and moved with
his family to New Braunfels in 1972; after graduating from high
school in 1979, he attended Trinity University, playing football
for the Trinity Tigers, and earned a bachelor's degree in science;
and
       WHEREAS, He began a successful career in finance as a
national bank examiner with the Comptroller of the Currency, a
department of the United States Treasury; he then worked as a
vice president for the Alice National Bank in Alice; and
       WHEREAS, James returned to New Braunfels in 1993 and began
his career as an investment advisor; in September of 2006 he
received designation as a certified financial planner; and
       WHEREAS, He enthusiastically served his community, working
diligently to make it a better place to live, work, and raise a
family; he was an active leader in the Rotary Club, having served
as its president and as a counselor with the Rotary's Youth
Exchange; he hosted five international students from the program
in his home; and
       WHEREAS, He also served as president of the United Way and
as a leader in the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce; he was
active in city and county elections and served as a planning and
zoning commissioner for New Braunfels; and
       WHEREAS, He was a member of the Oakwood Baptist Church,
and he showed his devotion in his daily life; he enjoyed hunting,
fishing, and going to the beach with friends and family; most of
all, he enjoyed being with his devoted wife and daughters; and
       WHEREAS, He will fondly be remembered as an accomplished
investments advisor, an influential community advocate, and a
devoted family man who will be greatly missed by all who had the
good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of James Howard Dunks: his wife, Felicia Dunks;
his daughters, Sarah Ann Dunks and Leah Nicole Dunks; his mother,
Mary Ann Dunks; his sister, Pamela Kay Esmond; and his brother,
Steven Paul Dunks; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of James Howard Dunks.
