SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1088
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Becker Elementary School of the Austin Independent
School District on the occasion of its 70th anniversary; and
       WHEREAS, Becker Elementary School, the Becker Parent-Teacher
Association, and the Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Association
celebrated the school's 70th anniversary on Friday and Saturday,
October 20 and 21, 2006; and
       WHEREAS, The school's goals include providing enrichment
opportunities to all of its students and helping them to acquire
the skills to lead productive lives in today's challenging world;
and
       WHEREAS, The school's major programs and initiatives
include a Green Classroom that provides hands-on gardening and
environmental science education, the Austin Energy Solar Panel
Project, a Special Education Inclusion Pilot School, and a Prime
Time After-School Enrichment Program; and
       WHEREAS, Becker Elementary School was built in 1936; it
serves students in prekindergarten through the fifth grade; over
the last 70 years, the school has been led by excellent principals
and many outstanding teachers who have provided superior
educational opportunities to its students; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the past and present
students, faculty, and administration of Becker Elementary
School on the school's 70th anniversary; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
memento of the special occasion.
