SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1091
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to recognize Congregation Beth Israel on the occasion of its
130th Celebration, which took place April 21, 2007; and
       WHEREAS, Congregation Beth Israel was organized at a
meeting in September of 1876; its first plot of land was purchased
on May 26, 1877, at 11th Street and San Jacinto Boulevard, and its
first house of worship was built in 1884; and
       WHEREAS, Beth Israel joined the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations in 1907; in December of 1957, it dedicated its
current worship center located on Shoal Creek Boulevard; the
building contained an auditorium, a chapel, and 12 classrooms;
and
       WHEREAS, Congregation Beth Israel's membership has
grown to more than 670 families; it has followed the evolving
Reform Judaic traditions of worship, community involvement,
and education; it offers its membership many opportunities
to explore and experience the rich treasure of Jewish culture,
belief, and practice; and
       WHEREAS, Congregation Beth Israel has enjoyed outstanding
leaders and teachers over the years, and it has made many
contributions to the development of Austin and the
State of Texas; and
       WHEREAS, Its significance in the history of Travis County
was recognized in 1995 when the Travis County Historical
Commission placed a historical marker in front of the temple;
now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the members of
Congregation Beth Israel on its 130th Celebration and extend
to all best wishes for the future; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Congregation Beth Israel as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
