SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1096
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize The University of Texas--Pan American Reserve Officer
  Training Corps Battalion for earning the 2006 General Douglas MacArthur
  Award; and
         WHEREAS, This prestigious accolade is presented by the
  United States Army Cadet Program, in conjunction with the
  General Douglas MacArthur Foundation; this award recognizes the
  top Reserve Officer Training Corps programs in the nation; cadets
  must excel academically, rank among the highest cadets at the
  national Leadership and Development Assessment Course, and
  exceed the requirements for the Army Physical Fitness Test to
  qualify for the award; and
         WHEREAS, Educating and developing ethical leaders with
  strong values for the South Texas region, the state, and the
  nation is one of the missions of The University of Texas--
  Pan American; and
         WHEREAS, Due to the able guidance of Lieutenant Colonel
  Andre Dean, The University of Texas--Pan American Bronc Battalion
  became the western division honoree; Lieutenant Colonel Dean
  leads the group as commanding officer, with the help of an
  exceptional team of United States Army officers; the program
  also enjoys the support of the community, as demonstrated by
  scholarships provided by retired United States Army Colonel,
  Louis Draper; and
         WHEREAS, The outstanding young men and women of the Bronc
  Battallion have demonstrated the importance of hard work and
  dedication in building an accomplished program; they are a source
  of pride to their school and community, and it is a pleasure to
  recognize them at this time; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby congratulate The University of Texas--
  Pan American Reserve Officer Training Corps Battalion on earning
  the 2006 General Douglas MacArthur Award and extend to its members
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for the cadets as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas Senate.
