SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1096
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize The University of Texas--Pan American Reserve Officer |
|
|
Training Corps Battalion for earning the 2006 General Douglas MacArthur |
|
|
Award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This prestigious accolade is presented by the |
|
|
United States Army Cadet Program, in conjunction with the |
|
|
General Douglas MacArthur Foundation; this award recognizes the |
|
|
top Reserve Officer Training Corps programs in the nation; cadets |
|
|
must excel academically, rank among the highest cadets at the |
|
|
national Leadership and Development Assessment Course, and |
|
|
exceed the requirements for the Army Physical Fitness Test to |
|
|
qualify for the award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Educating and developing ethical leaders with |
|
|
strong values for the South Texas region, the state, and the |
|
|
nation is one of the missions of The University of Texas-- |
|
|
Pan American; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Due to the able guidance of Lieutenant Colonel |
|
|
Andre Dean, The University of Texas--Pan American Bronc Battalion |
|
|
became the western division honoree; Lieutenant Colonel Dean |
|
|
leads the group as commanding officer, with the help of an |
|
|
exceptional team of United States Army officers; the program |
|
|
also enjoys the support of the community, as demonstrated by |
|
|
scholarships provided by retired United States Army Colonel, |
|
|
Louis Draper; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The outstanding young men and women of the Bronc |
|
|
Battallion have demonstrated the importance of hard work and |
|
|
dedication in building an accomplished program; they are a source |
|
|
of pride to their school and community, and it is a pleasure to |
|
|
recognize them at this time; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate The University of Texas-- |
|
|
Pan American Reserve Officer Training Corps Battalion on earning |
|
|
the 2006 General Douglas MacArthur Award and extend to its members |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the cadets as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
