SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1107
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the members of the Texas A&M University at Galveston
  offshore sailing team who were crew members of its sailboat
  Reveille during Texas Race Week for their daring rescue; and
 
         WHEREAS, During Texas Race Week, student captain
  April Spiller, assistant sailing coach Roger Stone, and crew
  members Justin McDonald, Emilee Stevens, David Guzman, and
  Richard Hayes responded to a vessel in distress; and
 
         WHEREAS, When the crew of the Reveille saw the dismasting
  of the sailboat Paladin, they lowered their sails and motored
  back to rescue the sailboat, which was drifting dangerously close
  to the rocks of Galveston's South Jetty; and
 
         WHEREAS, The crew members of the Reveille surrendered a
  commanding lead to rescue the sailors and tow the Paladin out of
  harm's way; and
 
         WHEREAS, For the gallant performance of its crew members,
  the race committee awarded the Reveille enough points to capture
  first place in class and fleet; in addition, each crew member
  received a special award for the rescue; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby commend the coach, captain, and crew of
  the Texas A&M University at Galveston sailboat Reveille for their
  service to others and for upholding the finest traditions of
  seamanship; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
