SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1121
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
  tribute to Irma Hicks on the grand occasion of her 100th birthday
  on June 25, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Irma was born in Lowell, Arkansas, on June 25, 1907;
  her father was a contractor, and the family moved several times in
  northwest Arkansas and northeast Oklahoma; she was the youngest of
  eight children, and although the family had hard times, she grew up
  in a loving home; and
         WHEREAS, Her family moved to Rogers, Arkansas, and Irma
  worked for Southwestern Bell and cared for her aging parents
  until their deaths; she met and married her husband in 1943;
  after his death in 1954, Irma worked as a secretary for the
  First Baptist Church for 29 years; and
         WHEREAS, She sold her home in Arkansas in 1995 and moved to
  Houston to be near her son, Larry M. Hicks, and his family, who
  will celebrate Irma's 100th birthday with a trip to Hawaii; she
  has been blessed with four grandchildren and six
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Irma is in good health and continues to live
  independently; she is a revered and respected member of her
  community and noted for her wise and engaging personality, her
  courage, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby recognize Irma Hicks as a treasured
  citizen of our state and extend to her best wishes for a joyful
  100th birthday celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
