SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1124
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Mark Dantonio, who has been named the new head football
  coach at Michigan State University; and
         WHEREAS, Born in El Paso, Coach Dantonio grew up in Ohio
  and played college football at the University of South Carolina;
  he then served as an assistant coach under Nick Saban at
  Michigan State University before becoming the defensive
  coordinator at Ohio State University, where he developed the
  stellar defense that helped propel the Buckeyes to a national
  championship; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Dantonio's character and reputation earned
  him the job of head coach at the University of Cincinnati, where
  he revitalized its football program and took his teams to bowl
  games in two of his three years at the helm; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Dantonio's accomplishments prompted
  Michigan State University to secure his service as head coach in
  late 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Dantonio is returning to Texas on May 29, 2007,
  as a "native son" eager to cultivate relationships with Texas high
  school football coaches and to focus his eyes on Texas high school
  football talent, which regularly produces more Division I football
  scholarship athletes than any other state; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Dantonio's successful career rests upon his
  reliance on core principles and values in shaping
  student-athletes and helping them to become productive citizens;
  he is truly deserving of recognition for his coaching success and
  his outstanding contributions to college football; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby commend Mark Dantonio for his many
  achievements and extend to him a sincere welcome to the
  Lone Star State; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
