SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1133
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Bastrop on the grand occasion of the city's
  175th anniversary; and
 
         WHEREAS, The town was officially platted on June 8, 1832,
  and named for Baron de Bastrop, a longtime friend and associate
  of Stephen F. Austin; the site was occupied as early as 1804,
  when a fort known as Puesta del Colorado was established where
  the Old San Antonio Road crossed the Colorado River; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Lost Pine Forest, the westernmost stand of the
  great eastern pine forests, contributed to the economy, and when
  nearby Austin became the state capital, Bastrop supplied much of
  the lumber; and
 
         WHEREAS, Known as the "Most Historic Small Town in Texas,"
  Bastrop boasts more than 130 restored homes and buildings along
  its picturesque streets; among the highlights is the historic
  Bastrop Opera House, built in 1889; and
 
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Bastrop are confidently facing
  the challenges of the future while continuing to embrace their
  rich and colorful history; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby recognize the City of Bastrop for its
  many contributions to the historical and cultural heritage of
  our state and extend to the citizens of Bastrop best wishes for a
  memorable 175th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the citizens of Bastrop in honor of this special occasion.
