SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1137
         WHEREAS, Rotary International is an organization of
  business and professional people who work to better the lives
  of those in need, who promote high ethical standards in all
  vocations, and who help build goodwill and peace throughout the
  world; today there are approximately 1.2 million Rotarians
  in over 32,000 Rotary Clubs in more than 200 countries and
  geographical areas; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Austin was formed on June 2, 1913,
  and will celebrate its 95th anniversary in 2008; it is one of the
  oldest Rotary Clubs in Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, The ongoing Rotary International motto is "Service
  Above Self," and the motto for the year 2007–2008 will be "Rotary
  Shares," in reference to its members sharing of their time, talents,
  expertise, and money to successfully carry out humanitarian and
  social projects; and
 
         WHEREAS, Rotary members share their compassion, enthusiasm,
  and commitment to help those in need; they make the world a better
  place in which to live through their passion for service; and
 
         WHEREAS, In following the theme "Rotary Shares," the Rotary
  Club of Austin is sponsoring its inaugural "Service Austin" 
  project on November 17, 2007; the project will involve enlisting
  volunteers from the Rotary Club of Austin and other Austin service
  clubs, schools, colleges, universities, public officials, firemen,
  policemen, churches, chambers of commerce, the health care
  community, and other organizations and individuals to contribute
  their time on this day to improve public parks, school grounds,
  or buildings or other clean-up, fix-up projects for nonprofit
  organizations and churches across Austin; and
 
         WHEREAS, Nonprofit entities, schools, and other groups may
  seek to have their project chosen as the "Service Austin" project
  by applying for the work to be done and have their project approved
  in advance; and
 
         WHEREAS, The type of community assistance being sought
  for carrying out the project is demonstrated by Saint Edward's
  University's Capstone Project; the university's students are
  designing a website for the Rotary Club of Austin's "Service Austin" 
  project; and
 
         WHEREAS, The goal of "Service Austin" is to bring people of
  Austin together to help one another to build better business and
  community relations and to help make Austin a better place to live
  by showing that all people of goodwill can work together with
  positive, long-term results; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby commend the Rotary Club of Austin for
  its initiative and leadership and extend appreciation to its
  members for creating the "Service Austin" project; and, be it
  further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the Rotary Club of Austin with best regards for a highly
  successful "Service Austin" project.
