SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1143
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
  tribute to Nehoma Annabelle Moultrie Brown on the grand occasion
  of her 80th birthday; and
         WHEREAS, This gracious lady is well known for her charm and
  generosity of spirit, and she is a revered resident of Austin; and
         WHEREAS, She was born June 6, 1927, to Richard and
  Myrtle Moultrie in Rockdale; while attending Tillotson College
  in Austin, she met and married John Henry Brown; the couple
  raised a daughter, Linda Diane Brown, and Mr. and Mrs. Brown have
  enjoyed more than 55 years of happiness and companionship in
  their marriage; and
         WHEREAS, Nehoma Brown graduated from Tillotson College
  with a bachelor's degree in elementary education; while a student
  there, she joined Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, and
  became a life member; she was honored for more than 50 years of
  service at the sorority's 75th Diamond Jubilee Celebration in
  1997; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Brown enjoyed a long and productive career as
  a teacher for the Ebenezer Child Development Center and for the
  Austin Independent School District; her love for her students and
  her enduring interest in their intellectual growth has been an
  inspiration to all who know her; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Brown is a devout member of the Ebenezer
  Missionary Baptist Church, where she is active in Sunday school
  and the Baptist Training Union; she has served many times as a
  Women's Day captain; and
         WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community,
  Mrs. Brown is cherished for her cheerful spirit, her compassion
  for others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby recognize Nehoma Annabelle Moultrie Brown
  as a treasured citizen of Austin and our state and extend to her
  best wishes on the momentous occasion of her 80th birthday; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as a memento of this special day.
