SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1154
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the Lubbock
  Colon Cancer Prevention Task Force in its commitment to work for
  the well-being of all citizens in Texas Senate District 28 and to
  fight against colon cancer, with the goal of eliminating it as a
  cause of illness and death in this region of West Texas; and
         WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society is a vital organization
  for the prevention and treatment of cancer, and the Lubbock Colon
  Cancer Prevention Task Force supports its efforts on a local
  level and has been partnering with city and county governments to
  campaign about cancer control issues; and
         WHEREAS, In Texas, over the next 10 years, an estimated
  100,000 men and women will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer,
  and 40,000 will die if something is not done; in the United States,
  over the next 10 years, an estimated 1.5 million men and women
  will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer; and
         WHEREAS, Most colon cancers can be prevented, and many
  deaths can be avoided if the best available technology is used
  consistently throughout our communities; and
         WHEREAS, In its early stage, colon cancer is curable but
  usually produces no symptoms; therefore, the American Cancer
  Society recommends that all men and women of normal health
  should start preventative screening for colon cancer at the age
  of fifty, or sooner for those with a family history of colon
  polyps or cancer; and
         WHEREAS, Recognizing the importance of preventing and
  eliminating colon cancer, the Lubbock Colon Cancer Prevention
  Task Force encourages all citizens in Texas Senate District 28 to
  take the initiative and discuss with their health care provider
  the necessary screening for colon cancer, with the hope that all
  can enjoy full and healthy lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby join the Lubbock Colon Cancer Prevention
  Task Force in its fight against colon cancer by proclaiming 2007
  Colon Cancer Prevention and Awareness Year; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the Lubbock Colon Cancer Prevention Task Force.
