SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1166
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
join citizens across the state in recognizing May of 2007 as |
|
|
Foster Care Month in Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Every child deserves a loving home in which to |
|
|
thrive and be nurtured; however, some parents have difficulty |
|
|
providing appropriate care for their children, making some type |
|
|
of intervention a necessity; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Foster parents provide temporary or permanent |
|
|
alternatives for those children and provide safe and loving homes |
|
|
for children who have come into the state's care due to abuse or |
|
|
neglect; whenever possible, children are placed with foster |
|
|
families in familiar settings close to their own homes, schools, |
|
|
and friends; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Foster parents are family-focused and assist in |
|
|
reuniting children with their birth families when appropriate |
|
|
and possible; they provide support and may at times mentor |
|
|
parents to help them successfully reunite with their children; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, When children cannot reunite with their birth |
|
|
families, some foster parents make the decision to adopt |
|
|
children in their care; state adoption and foster care statistics |
|
|
show that foster parent adoptions accounted for more than half of |
|
|
the adoptions of children from foster care in fiscal year 2006; |
|
|
for foster parents, receiving the approval to adopt acknowledges |
|
|
the family's love and commitment to the child; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, National Foster Care Month is an appropriate time |
|
|
for citizens to recognize the achievements and dedication of |
|
|
those families who have opened their hearts and homes to the |
|
|
young people of our state; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby proclaim May of 2007 Foster Care Month |
|
|
in Texas and urge all citizens to recognize foster parents for |
|
|
making a difference by bringing joy and happiness to children in |
|
|
need of a home; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of Foster Care Month. |
