SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1173

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Colonel Robert T. Burns, who has been named the recipient of the May, 2007, Adelante con Ganas Award; and

WHEREAS, Garrison Commander of Fort Bliss, Texas, Colonel Burns was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Defense Artillery in 1984, following his graduation from the University of Florida; he has gone on to earn master's degrees from Central Michigan University and the United States Army War College; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Burns' many leadership and staff positions include Platoon Leader and Battery Executive Officer, 5th Battalion (C/V/S), 62nd Air Defense Artillery, Fort Bliss, Texas; Military Secretariat, Directorate of Strategic Plans and Policy, J5, the Joint Staff; and Commander, 1st Battalion (PATRIOT), 7th Air Defense Artillery, Fort Bliss, Texas, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Burns has received numerous awards and decorations during his career, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Joint Staff Achievement Medal; he is truly deserving of recognition for his many accomplishments and his enduring service to our country; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby commend Colonel Robert T. Burns for his outstanding military career and extend congratulations to him on receiving the May, 2007, Adelante con Ganas Award; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
