SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1214
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize Stephen F. Austin High School on the grand occasion of |
|
its 125th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Stephen F. Austin High School's first campus was |
|
established in 1900 at the corner of 9th and Trinity Street and |
|
was known as the finest public high school in the South; during |
|
the period of 1900 to 1925, the building was called "old red," so |
|
named for its dark red bricks; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The school moved to 1212 Rio Grande in 1925, where |
|
it remained for 50 years; in 1975, the school relocated to the |
|
present Lakeside Campus; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Stephen F. Austin High School maintains high |
|
standards and expectations in academics, athletics, citizenship, |
|
and service; the 1883 school seal, with its motto of Mens Agitat |
|
Molem, The Mind Moves the Mass, is one of the school's oldest |
|
surviving artifacts, and the school has remained a place where |
|
the students strive to make continual progress and the faculty |
|
and staff provide an atmosphere beneficial to learning; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Stephen F. Austin High School |
|
for 125 years of educational excellence and extend best wishes |
|
to the students, faculty, and staff for the future; and, be it |
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the school as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
