SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1226
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Mathews Elementary School on the grand occasion of its
  90th anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, Built in 1916, Mathews Elementary School has the
  most diverse student body of any elementary school in the Austin
  Independent School District; it is known as Austin's award-winning
  Public International School, and the school's motto is "We Educate
  the World"; and
         WHEREAS, The mission of Mathews Elementary School is to help
  children to develop positive attitudes, strong academic foundations,
  and a lifelong love of learning; and
         WHEREAS, The unique nature of the student body has attracted 
  a highly committed administration, faculty, and staff members
  who are dedicated to providing the highest quality educational
  experience for every student; the school has incorporated global
  studies, whole language, cross-grade learning, and technology
  into the curriculum, along with programs in Spanish, Korean, and
  Chinese; and
         WHEREAS, The students at Mathews Elementary School have
  made great strides in Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills
  test mastery over the last few years; in the 2005-2006 school
  year, the school received the Gold Performance Acknowledgments
  of "Commended" in the fields of Reading-English Language Arts,
  Writing, Mathematics, and Science; and
         WHEREAS, Under the outstanding leadership of
  Principal Amy Kinkade, Mathews Elementary School has become
  a place where everyone works hard with trust and mutual respect
  to ensure academic success and student involvement; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby commend Mathews Elementary School
  for providing its students the tools and inspiration they need
  to succeed and extend congratulations to the students, faculty,
  staff, and administration on the occasion of the school's 90th
  anniversary; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
