SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1249
         WHEREAS, Many years ago, Burle and Frances Pettit made a
  lifetime commitment to each other, and their mutual trust has
  been amply rewarded for they are now celebrating their 50th
  wedding anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, The couple met when Burle, who was stationed in
  Alaska with the Army, went home to Texas for a visit; after being
  snubbed initially, Burle managed to win Frances's heart through
  an intensive letter-writing campaign; and
         WHEREAS, On the day of their wedding, Burle worked all day
  at his highway construction job, and Frances was completing her
  final examinations in her fourth semester in college; she had
  finished making her dress for the wedding the previous evening;
  and
         WHEREAS, Just three months after their first date, Burle
  and Frances were married on May 29, 1957, in a church in Ranger
  after Wednesday night services; and
         WHEREAS, The couple broke the news of their wedding to
  their parents three weeks later; in 15 months, their first son
  was born, and one month after that, the couple returned to
  college; one month before the birth of their second son, they
  both graduated in the same commencement ceremony; and
         WHEREAS, The world has changed considerably during the
  years of their marriage, yet Mr. and Mrs. Pettit have cherished
  traditional family and moral values; over the years, they have
  grown stronger in their love and devotion as together they
  experienced the joys and sorrows of everyday living; and
         WHEREAS, They have been blessed with a wonderful family;
  their children, Kevin, Kyle, and Scott; their daughter-in-law,
  Michelle; their grandchildren, Gary, Kasey, Morgan, Christopher,
  Kendall, and Hayden; and their great-grandchildren, Moiya and
  Hanna, have been a source of much pride and joy; and
         WHEREAS, The devoted relationship that Burle and Frances
  share is truly an inspiration to all who know them; they will be
  joined by their family and friends on May 27, 2007, in
  celebration of their 50 years together; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Burle Pettit
  on their golden wedding anniversary and extend to them best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  this distinguished couple as a memento of this special day in
  their lives.
