LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 26, 2007

TO:
Honorable Frank Corte, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Defense Affairs & State-Federal Relations

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB17 by Corte, Frank (Relating to the establishment of a pilot program to provide a ballot by electronic mail to military personnel serving overseas.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Secretary of State to implement a pilot program to provide a ballot by electronic mail to military personnel serving oversees not later than July 1, 2008. A county could request to participate in the pilot program, but must receive approval from the Secretary of State.

It is assumed that any additional costs resulting from implementation of the legislation could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

It is assumed that a county would participate in the pilot program developed by the Secretary of State's Office only if funds were available.
