FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 5, 2007

TO:
Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB122 by Dukes (Relating to promoting the importance of higher education in public schools.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require each school district and open-enrollment charter school to designate one week during the school year as "Education.  Go Get It" Week for middle school, junior high school, and high school students dedicated to promoting the importance of higher education.  The schools would be required to provide grade-appropriate information and to schedule at least one public speaker to promote the importance of higher education.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.

School districts and open-enrollment charter schools could see a slight increase in costs associated with planning the week and providing the information required by the bill.
