LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 19, 2007

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB154 by Pickett (Relating to the abolition of the Texas Transportation Commission and the creation of a commissioner of transportation as an elected statutory state officer.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to abolish the Texas Transportation Commission and create a Commissioner of Transportation as an elected state official. Under the provisions of the bill, the first Commissioner of Transportation would be elected at the general election held in November of 2008 to serve for a term that begins January 1, 2009.

Based on the analysis of the Secretary of State and the Texas Department of Transportation, it is assumed the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant fiscal impact to the state.

The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
