LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 12, 2007

TO:
Honorable John Carona, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB178 by Bailey (Relating to the issuance and renewal of certain licenses for junkyards and automotive wrecking and salvage yards.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 396.041(c), Transportation Code, by adding that an ordinance may impose a fee of not more than $500 for the issuance or renewal of a license for a junkyard or automotive wrecking and salvage yard if the ordinance is adopted by the commissioners court of a county with a population of 3.3 million or more. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, the population requirement would apply only to Harris County.

Local Government Impact

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
