| IN RE: | HB179 by Bailey (Relating to the authority of the boards of trustees of certain school districts to close low-performing high school campuses.), As Introduced |
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
In school districts with enrollment of at least 200,000 students, the bill would require a local board of trustees to obtain approval from the Texas Education Agency before ordering the closure of a high school campus that has been rated academically unacceptable under the state's accountability system. Currently, Houston Independent School District is the only school district with enrollment exceeding 200,000 students.
