LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 19, 2007

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB191 by Miller (Relating to the fees for issuance of specialty license plates to members and former members of the United States armed forces and their surviving spouses.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to specify that a person applying for a set of military specialty license plates is required to pay the applicable vehicle registration fee, except that one set of plates shall be issued without payment of the registration fee for certain military plates specified by the bill. The bill would specify that a surviving spouse applying for a military specialty plate is required to pay the applicable fees for the type of license plate for which the surviving spouse is eligible. The bill would amend the Transportation Code to standardize the fees for military specialty license plates.

Based on the analysis of the Texas Department of Transportation, it is assumed the changes in fees for military specialty license plates would not result in significant revenue impact to the state.

The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
