The bill would amend the Election Code relating to notification of voter registrar by probate court clerk of recent deaths. To the extent the bill would amend court procedures, no fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.
Local Government Impact
Implementing the provisions of the bill would result in moderate costs to local entities. DallasCounty reported that they would be required to add one full-time clerk position to handle the increased responsibilities at a cost of approximately $34,000 per year. BexarCounty would need to add one additional full-time position at a cost of approximately $45,000, which includes salary, benefits, and capital outlay.
The Travis County Clerk reported moderate costs to implement the provisions of the bill, due to the necessary forwarding of applications not pertaining to deceased persons.
