IN RE: | HB428 by Madden (Relating to the authority of the inspector general of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to issue administrative subpoenas for certain communication records.), As Engrossed |
The bill would amend the Government Code by adding Section 493.0191 that would authorize the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) inspector general to issue administrative subpoenas for business records that disclose information about a communications common carrier's or electronics service’s customers, or uses of the services offered by the carrier or service, and are material to a criminal investigation of a potential escape, violations involving prohibited substances and items within a TDCJ facility, or other offense involving inmates or the operations of the department.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has determined that the costs associated with implementing the bill are not anticipated to be significant and would be absorbed with current resources.
