No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Occupations Code to authorize a county bail bond board to review a new license holder during the first year of licensing for compliance with Chapter 1704.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to prohibit a person, other than an attorney representing a defendant, from charging a fee for assisting a defendant to obtain release on personal bond, except for a fee imposed under Article 17.42. A violation would be a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by a fine not to exceed $4,000 or confinement in jail of not more than one year, or both a fine and confinement.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.
