No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Education Code as it relates to the continuing education requirements for police chiefs.

Section 1 of the bill amends Education Code, Sections 96.641 (b) and (d) which requires the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education to establish a 24-month continuing education training period for police chiefs. The bill also requires the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education to establish that the first continuing education training period for police chiefs begins on the first day of the first uniform continuing education period after the chief completes their initial training period. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.

The Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education anticipates no fiscal impact to the agency. 


Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
