No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Transportation Code to create as an offense the failure of a passenger in a vehicle involved in an accident to provide aid to a person injured in the accident if the passenger could do so without placing himself/herself in danger of serious bodily injury or death. Punishment would be confinement in the institutional division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for not more than five years or confinement in a county jail for not more than one year, a fine not to exceed $5,000, or both imprisonment or confinement and a fine.
