LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 3, 2007

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB499 by Castro (Relating to the minimum height required for guardrails on bridges or overpasses.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require that a guardrail constructed on or after the effective date of the bill on a bridge or overpass located on a public road or highway in this state must be at least 36 inches in height.

Based on the analysis of the Texas Department of Transportation, it is assumed that any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
