FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 2, 2007

TO:
Honorable Judith Zaffirini, Chair, Senate Committee on S/C on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB589 by Aycock (Relating to the student enrollment required for Texas A&M University--Central Texas to operate as a general academic teaching institution.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 87.861(d), Education Code to lower the threshold for Texas A&M University – Central Texas System Center in Killeen to become a free-standing general academic teaching institution by changing the methodology by which the students are calculated. The methodolgy in the bill would calculate the 1,000 full-time students threshold per academic year, defined as the fall and spring semesters and the summer session of the academic year. Current statute calculates the 1,000 full-time students per semester.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
