February 9, 2007

TO:

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB605 by Howard, Donna (Relating to the creation of a library district.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code by adding to the definition of a municipal public library that the library is accredited for membership in the state library system. The bill would authorize a library district to include contiguous territory within one or more counties, whereas under current statute the territory must be in a single county. In addition, provisions of the bill would create changes in administrative procedures related to creation of the district and related elections.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
