LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 13, 2007

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB652 by Quintanilla (Relating to the penalty for an offense committed during the inattentive operation of a motor vehicle.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code by doubling the fine for an offense committed while a vehicle operator is inattentive. The bill would establish what defines inattentive driving.

It is anticipated that state and local costs associated with training officers on changes to the statute and with enforcement could be absorbed utilizing existing resources. The increase in fines collected would create a local revenue gain that is not anticipated to be significant.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
