Honorable Wayne Smith, Chair, House Committee on County Affairs
FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB673 by Oliveira (Relating to seawalls and street lights as authorized projects in a public improvement district.), As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Local Government Code by adding erecting street lights and constructing or improving a seawall to the list of items that could be included as a public improvement project. The bill would also authorize a municipality or county to locate a seawall-related public improvement project on private property if the governing body finds that the project serves a public purpose of that municipality or county.
Local Government Impact
Costs of improvement projects are paid through assessments imposed within the public improvement district, therefore, payment of costs for a street light improvement or a seawall project would be made using funds collected through assessments.
