No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code to allow a candidate for a county or precinct office to file an affidavit with the county clerk or the precinct office at any time prior to the election that states that if the person is elected, they will decline to accept compensation for their service in that elected position. The person would not be allowed to revoke the declination during their term of office.

Local Government Impact

A county would incur administrative costs for processing the affidavit and sending a copy to the county payroll officer, but would realize a savings in the amount of the declined salary.

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
