IN RE:
HB770 by Dutton (Relating to requiring the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to provide notice to certain persons of the right to vote.), As Engrossed
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government code by requiring the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) to provide written notice to a person who is released from TDCJ of their eligibility to vote if the person has been discharged from any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court or been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote. TDCJ shall also provide the person with an official voter registration application. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has determined that the cost of implementing the bill would not be significant.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
