LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 4, 2007

TO:
Honorable Harold V. Dutton, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB807 by Dutton (Relating to the payment and use of a juvenile delinquency prevention fund.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would authorize a municipality or a county commissioners court to establish a juvenile delinquency prevention fund and would authorize a court to impose a $5 juvenile delinquency prevention fee on a defendant who is a child and is convicted of an offense.

Under current statute, only a county commissioners court may establish the fund and the fund currently applies only to a graffiti offense.

Local Government Impact

If a municipality or a county commissioners court were to establish a juvenile delinquency prevention fund, the amount collected in each county or municipality would vary.

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
