IN RE: | HB846 by Olivo ( relating to the right of a parent of a public school student to prompt notice of certain disciplinary action taken against the student.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
The bill would entitle a parent to prompt notice of certain school disciplinary actions. The bill would require notification in person, by telephone, or a written notice to be mailed by 5:00 p.m. on the first business day following the disciplinary action. The bill would require that the notice include a statement of the student's and parent's applicable procedural rights under Subchapter A, Chapter 37, Education Code. The bill would afford noncustodial parents the same entitlement to notification upon request. To the extent that school districts would need to establish or revise such processes, additional local cost could be incurred. Such costs would be expected to vary among districts and would not be anticipated to be significant on a statewide basis.
