HB927 by Haggerty (Relating to a court's jurisdiction to suspend the sentence imposed for a felony and place the defendant on community supervision.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure by extending the period a court has jurisdiction over a defendant sentenced to the institutional division from 180 days to two years.  During this period the court can suspend certain eligible defendants’ sentences and impose community supervision.

 

The change in law under this bill would apply to defendants over whom a court's jurisdiction has not expired before the bill takes effect. 

 

The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.
